Clinical significance
HBV - a virus of the Hepadnaviridae family, causing hepatitis B. Infection occurs by the parenteral route, mainly through the blood, sexually or perinatally. The main reservoir of infection is the sick person. The test involves the detection of HBV DNA. It is a quantitative test that is useful in assessing the effectiveness of treatment and in the chronic form of the disease in distinguishing the replicative form from the non-replicative form of the infection.
