Human T-cell leukemia virus antibodies HTLV I/II

Clinical significance

HTLV is a single-stranded RNA virus of human T-cell leukemia. Two types of virus HTLV-I have been identified, showing tropism to CD4+ T lymphocytesów and HTLV-II, to CD8+ T lymphocytes. HTLV viruses are involved in the pathogenesis of diseasesób proliferative. HTLV-I is etiologically associated with T-cell leukemia, rheumatologic diseases, myositis. HTLV infections due to its endemic occurrence are not common. HTLV-I is found in the Caribbean, Africa, Japan, HTLV-II in some areas of the United States. HTLV is transmitted from mother to child during feeding, during transfusions of blood and blood products, and among drug users through the use of blood-contaminated needles.
