Clinical significance

Chlamydia psittaci - a bacterium that causes so-called ornithosis in humans, usually progressing with pneumonia. Infection occurs through infected birds or through inhalation of areosol containing bird secretions or excretions. The source of infection can also be a sick person. The incubation period is up to 2 weeks, symptoms of infection in the form of fever, dry cough, sometimes skin rash persist for up to about a month.
