EBV IgM antibodies

Testing the level of IgM antibodies against EBV in the blood. Testing IgM antibody level against Epstein Barr virus is used is used as a test for mononucleosis.


IgM mononucleosis antibodies appear early, at the time of the onset of the first symptoms of the disease and persist for 2-3 months. Mononucleosis infection can be asymptomatic or with non-specific symptoms (especially in infants, younger children and elderly).


The heraldic symptoms are flu-like symptoms that develop gradually.

Symptoms of mononucleosis

• inflammation of the throat and tonsils,
• enlargement of lymph nodes and spleen,
• inflammation of the liver,
• skin soreness
• headache,
• abdominal pain,
• nausea,
• vomiting,
• weakness,
• bad mood,
• fatigue,
• feeling of exhaustion,
