Pertussis, also known as whooping cough, is caused by the bacterium Bordatella pertussis, is an infectious disease that runs in the form of form of bronchitis of a chronic nature, with severe coughing attacks.

IgG antibodies in older children and adults are the result of past infection or vaccination. Elevated titers of IgG antibodies are indicative of fresh pertussis infection, only in unvaccinated persons or in those who received the last dose of vaccine pertussis vaccine several years ago or earlier.
