Leydig cells - steroidogenic cells found in the
interstitial spaces, in the connective tissue, between the
seminal tubules of the testes. The main role of Leydig cells is
production of testosterone responsible for the formation of secondary and
tertiary sexual characteristics, development of the testes, seminal vesicles
seminal vesicles, scrotum, prostate gland, penis, as well as influencing
spermatogenesis and maintenance of male sexual function
Antibodies to Leydig cells can cause a disruption of
sexual maturation in adolescents, gonadal failure and
infertility.
