Onconeuronal antibodies are antibodies that attack and
destroy the nervous system. Determinations of onconeuronal antibodies
allow, with an appropriate clinical picture, to make a
confident diagnosis of neurological paraneoplastic syndrome and
taking diagnostic measures aimed at determining the
localization of the primary tumor and implementation of specific
treatment. Each of the antibodies is specific to a particular
paraneoplastic syndrome and cancer. Anti-Ma-2 antibodies
are characteristic of limbic encephalitis, inflammation of the
brainstem, cerebellar degeneration. They can accompany such cancers
such as testicular cancer, lung cancer and breast cancer.
