Clinical significance

Lysozyme (muraminidase) is a bacterioblastic protein derived from intracellular lysosomesów. This protein in serum is derived from the breakdown of gralulocytesów neutral lymphocytes and macrophagesów. Lysozyme is an enzyme thatós used in the diagnosis of diseasesób in hematology and nephrology (determination in urine). Determination of its activity gives information on the bodyós cellular response. Indications for the determination are sarcoidosis ( an additional marker of activity after ACE - Angiotensin-converting enzyme), leukemia, neonatal sepsisów. In myeloid and monocytic leukemia, there is a decrease in the concentration of lysozyme in remission and an increase in case of relapse. In lymphoid leukemias, values may remain within normal limits.
