Lamotrigine

Lamotrigine is an anticonvulsant drug used to treat Simple and complex partial seizures and generalized seizures, as well as epileptic seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome In addition, it is used in the prevention of affective disorders bipolar and in the prevention of recurrent depression. The principle action of lamotrigine is to block continuous, repetitive excitation of neurons and prolonging the repolarization time of cell membranes of cells, associated with blocking sodium channels. Determination of concentration of the drug is helpful in determining dosage and in suspected poisoning, overdose.
