Iodine in urine

Iodine is used for the production of thyroid hormones: thyroxine (T4) and triodothyronine (T3), whichre responsible for the proper functioning of the nervous system, heart, muscles, kidneys. Deficiencyr of iodine can lead to hypothyroidism and, in pregnant women, to irreversible damage to the mbrain in the fetus and newborn. Iodine levels should also be checkedly in women whore experiencing frequent miscarriages and premature birthsly. Determination of iodine in urine is helpful in assessing iodine supply.
