Determination of iodine levels in the body. The serum concentration of iodine depends on its content in food and water, absorption in the intestine, and the rate of absorption by the thyroid gland.

Iodine is used in the production of iodine hormones

Iodine is used for the production of the thyroid hormones thyroxine (T4) and triodothyronine (T3), which are responsible for the proper functioning of the nervous system, heart, muscles, kidneys.

Deficiencyr of iodine can lead to hypothyroidism and, in pregnant women, to irreversible damage to the mzgum in the fetus and newbornwomb. Iodine levels should also be tested for women whore experiencing frequent miscarriages and premature births
