Pyruvate kinase (PK) - an enzyme involved in glycolysis
converting phosphoenolpyruvate to pyruvate with simultaneous
ATP formation. PK occurs in the form of isoforms, in muscle and brain
M1 tetrameric type, in the liver and kidney L-PK type. W
erythrocytes type R. In cells with increased proliferation
there is an enzymatically inactive dimeric form of M2-PK. An increase in
M2-PK concentration in plasma and feces occurs in adenomas and
colorectal neoplasms and in chronic inflammatory conditions
intestines.
