Bartonella henselae DNA qualitative

Clinical significance

Bartonella henselae is the bacterium that causes cat scratch disease. The disease is manifested by enlargement and inflammation of the lymph nodesów near the site of scratching or biting by an infected cat, as a result of infection of the skinóry, eyes or mucous membranes. Some infected individuals develop fever and enlargement of the lymph nodes, liver and spleen after a few weeks. Children as young as 15 years old are most often ill. Due to the difficulty of culturing Bartonella henselae from clinical specimens, direct detection of the DNA of these bacteria in blood serum is of greater diagnostic importance.
