Determination of phosphate concentration in an adventitious urine sample is used for initial differential testing for causes of phosphatemia.
Adults
- Provide a sterile container before the test Containers are available at the Point of Collection or for purchase at the pharmacy.
- Urine for culture is collected in the morning after an overnight rest.
- Before collecting a urine sample, wash your hands thoroughly with warm water and soap, wash your hands and then the urethral outlet (in women in the vulva area, from the front towards the anus, and in men the glans after pushing back the foreskin). A disposable towel should be used to wipe disposable towel. - Into the container is urinated from the so-called "middle stream". - first pass the first small amount of urine into the toilet, and only only then collect the urine into the container. The final portion of urine should be again be returned to the toilet.
- The collected urine sample for general examination should be between 50 and 100 milliliters. A urine sample for culture testing may be a few milliliters.
- The container with the collected urine sample should be tightly closed and delivered as soon as possible as soon as possible to the Collection Point. If this cannot be do so immediately, place the container in the refrigerator and bring it for examination as soon as possible. In the case of testing for culture the sample must not remain in the refrigerator for more than 2 hours.
Infants and young children
- The baby's urine sample is best taken in the morning, right after feeding.
- Remove the baby's diaper and wash the area around the urethral outlet (in girls, the area of the vulva from the front towards the towards the anus, and in boys the glans after pushing back the foreskin).
- Lift the child and massage his back muscles from the top towards the down, along the spine.
- This activity should be performed in a warm room (the muscles will relax faster, and the child will avoid catching a cold).
- When the child begins to urinate, as in the case of adult urine collection, a sample is taken from the "middle stream" into a suitable container.
