Blood clotting factor X

 

Coagulation factor X (Stuart's factor) is produced mainlyóin the liver, but also in macrophages. Vitamin K is required for its proper synthesis. Factor X deficiency occurs with a frequency of 1/500,000 of the generalól population. As in hemophilia, the severity of the diathesis is closely related to the activity of factor X in the blood. For normal hemostasis, 15 - 20% of normal factor X concentration is sufficient. In severe deficiency, there may be bleeding from the umbilical stump, bleeding from mucous membranes, from the nose, from the gastrointestinal tract, profuse and prolonged monthly bleeding. When factor X activity is very low, jointóve hemorrhages and excessive bleeding after trauma are revealed. Rarely, hemorrhages into the central nervous system occur.
