Clinical significance

Growth factor binding protein type 3 (IGFBP-3) is a protein that binds IGF (insulin-like growth factor). The concentration of IGFBP-3 depends on the concentration of growth hormone and also on the age of the subject. IGFB-3 determination is used similarly to IGF-1 determination in the diagnosis of abnormal growth hormone secretion.
