Amoxicillin
Amoxicillin - an antibiotic that is a semisynthetic penicillin
with a broad spectrum of bactericidal activity.
Amoxicillin is used to treat infections of the
respiratory system, middle ear and paranasal sinuses, urinary system
urinary tract, genital tract, in skin and soft tissue infections
and in septicemia. Occasionally, patients show specific hypersensitivity
to β-lactam antibiotics. These reactions can be immediate-IgE
dependent, cytotoxic or delayed. The most common
symptom is cutaneous urticaria. Other reactions may involve the tract
respiratory tract, eyes, gastrointestinal tract. Due to the similar structure of
β-lactam antibiotics, this group may experience a reaction
cross-reactivity, that is, hypersensitivity to penicillins, synthetic penicillins
and other antibiotics in this group.
The test detects the presence of specific IgE antibodies against
amoxicillin.
